This is the typical breakfast rooms that so many people have, but it has been transformed. This house has a formal eating area off the other side of the kitchen so this room was not used as much. The client still wanted an area for her children to do art projects and eat if needed. This built in table saved space while still being useful. On the opposite wall there is a nice sitting area for mom. Two chairs with a lamp gives her a place to sit and read the morning paper. The room is open and still so beautiful. Beadboard was added to give the room a custom look.

Before

After: Granite countertops make a clean and complete look. The cabinets were painted sable with a antiqued glaze to give the room a warmth and unique look.

Before:

After: Accented wall with a warm color. The fireplace has been antiqued and shows up much more. The drapes were replaced with shutters and the room was painted a nice simple backdrop to the rich fabrics in the furniture. Wood floors with an area rug make the room look larger and more elegant.

Interesting thought when designing an island. I love the combination of browns and woods in this island. Don't be afraid to combine textures and colors, they can really be beautiful. The island was distressed and glazed by one of my favorites, Renee Sandifer.

Before: The ceilings were at 8 feet. Lots of furdowns were throughout the kitchen. The cabinets were low and the dark molding, is a nice look but really lowered the ceilings even more.

After: Furdowns were removed when the ceilings were raised to 9 feet. Taller cabinets make the room look larger and taller than it really is.

Before: Cook top was small and did not lend to much counter space. The arch was a nice effect but did not leave much head room for your taller cooks.

After: The brick theme was so charming that is was brought back into this remodel with a little twist. The old look of these bricks give the house a real cozy feel. The hood was raised allowing the feeling of higher ceilings and more counterspace for the Thanksgiving Turkey.

Before: A dividing wall makes the house seem small and chopped up.

After: The flow of the house was changed by removal of the wall. Gives an open feel that makes all of the house feel as it all belongs together. Wood looking tile was also added to make the rooms have consistency throughout.

Before

Transformation was achieved. A stainless undermount sink was installed. My favorite of all granites was used, it has a beautiful movement while lending itself to many colors and effects. The glazed tile was replaced with a nice 2 inch tumble tile, this gives the appearence of a bigger kitchen.

Before

After: WOW what a change. This is a knotty alder door that has a panels instead of windows. The door was painted black to bring out the color in her red brick. I love the hardware as well, it makes the door look heavy and complete. It is very inviting and brings a welcome to all who enter.

Before

After: WHAT a difference. We painted the brick with an antique white, while showing a contrast in the mantel with a dark brown color. This brought warmth to the entire room.

Before

After: We painted the rails with a chocolate tone paint. We used water based paint. The color makes the color on the walls bolder.

Before

After: This room was updated to showcase this wonderful mantel. The mantel was painted and distress to give a wonderful aged look. We painted the wall around the fireplace an accent beige to complement the tones in the room. We added shutters to the windows. We removed heavy trim around the mirror and walls to give a more modern feel. The couches were replaced with natural tones and we added several lamps to make it a great place to have people sit after a dinner party.

Before

After: All the fabric was removed from the walls. We added sconces to the bedside to make and painted the walls in a latte tone. The bedding was replaced to give a cozy feel. To give the room depth we added a throw on the bed that was made out of a soft mink like material.

This bathroom was tranformed into a old fashion beautiful guest bath. Fabric was removed from the walls, bead board was added at four feet high, a charming pedestal sink and faucet, and the wall color was painted prairie grass by Sherwin Williams.

BEFORE

After: Wonderful oversized molding was put on the windows, removal of chair rail and trim work, then softer tones in color add a more comfortable feel. Trim on windows will give the room weight and a completed feel.

A wonderful addition to make a house a home. Shutters and window boxes give a house charm. Notice the hardware that plays a big part in the overall effect.

BEFORE
AFTER: updated with shutters, tile entry, painted trim, window boxes and landscaping. Shutters can be tricky, make sure they look like they could close on the window giving the look of a real functional shutter. Landscaping should be size appropriate and not take years to enjoy the look of it.
